Cracked Pot Friends

Chrysanthemum

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.

‘I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.’

The old woman smiled, ‘Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side?’

‘That’s because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.

For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.’

Hydrangeas

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it’s the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.

You’ve just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

So, to all of my cracked pot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

Funny Friday – Salute Dad

Posted in Family, Health, Life on June 17th, 2010 by redkathy – 1 Comment

father and sonWhat better a way to honor Dad this Father’s Day than with a bit of humor!

To be a successful father, there’s one absolute rule: when you have a kid, don’t look at it for the first two years. – Ernest Hemingway

A little child in church for the first time watched as the ushers passed the offering plates.
When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear: “Don’t pay for me Daddy, I’m under five.”

Daddy, daddy, can I have another glass of water?
But I’ve already given you ten!
I know, but the bedroom is still on fire!

The father of five children had won a toy at a raffle.
He called his kids together to ask which one should have the present.
“Who is the most obedient?” he asked.
“Who never talks back to mother? Who does everything she says?”
Five small voices answered in unison. “Okay, dad, you get the toy.”

Way to go dad. What a father will do for his little girl!

Happy Father’s Day!

Funny Friday – Barcodes

laughing dogI am one of those people who prefer the self check out cash register especially when I am short on time. It makes absolutely no sense that I continue that preference. Why do I say that? Seems as though every time I choose the self check out those dang barcode scanners fail to read one item! Someone forgot to put that code in. I hear the machines voice, “Item not found, please scan your item again, or press the help button for assistance.” Well heck, I pass the barcode label over the scanner again and nothing, rub the bar code label and try again, still nothing. Thinking man I do not want to push that assistance button, I will be here forever….

Did barcode scanners attend school… They never get the numbers right!

The first shopping excursion for your new baby is an overwhelmingly exciting occurrence as I recall. Thinking back on the subject, most shopping discussions among friends referred to clothes for newborn girls. Oh sure, the conversation was set in motion with a great sale or the best brands of infant clothing however, the excitement most often revolved around sweet frilly dresses, ruffled bottom leotards, and pink shoes.
