Miracle-Gro® is my preferred gardening brand. Not only has Miracle-Gro® served my trees, potted plants, and garden needs well but also evokes warmhearted memories. Back in the 70’s, house plants and terrariums were a hot trend. In my neighborhood the most common house plants were the Philodendron vines, Areca “butterfly” palms, Sprengerii “asparagus”ferns, and the Chlorophytum comosum aka Spider Plants. I remember the women bragging about their house plants: “Oh you should see how many babies my spider plant grew” or “My asparagus fern is a perfect teardrop shape!” Popularity among these flourishing house plants was their low light requirement and ease of care. Moreover, Miracle-Gro® provided the greatest “bragging tool” on the market and the one these women definitely engaged.

“Miracle-Gro® is the world’s best selling plant food. The brand originated in 1951, when Horace Hagedorn, a marketer, and Otto Stern, a nurseryman, took a water-soluble plant food and set out to make it a gardening staple across America. Consumers loved the astonishing results of Miracle-Gro and soon the product became a mail order and then a retail success.”

Moving to Florida in the mid 1980’s transformed the meaning of house plant into garden delights for me. Here in SW Florida, asparagus ferns are an intrusive plant and spread like crazy. Not concerned with intrusion, they fill my front planter while variegated Pothos, similar to the Philodendron, climb our Palmetto Palms.

In last few years, growing herbs in pots on the front patio have been added to our gardening experience. Thanks to Miracle-Gro® Organic Choice® All Purpose Plant Food Concentrate, we had successful harvests of basil, dill, and sage for two seasons. The herbs enhance many recipes as well as providing the outdoor patio area with a wonderful aroma. Two green thumbs up for the Miracle-Gro® Organic Choice!

Of course, the Christmas Poinsettia grows outside here as well. Most recently, a bit of fresh air, outdoor light, and a dose Miracle-Gro invigorated our neglected Christmas Poinsettia after it appeared to be ready for the compost pile. As you can tell, I continue to use Miracle-Gro® products.

What is Miracle-Gro® Expand ‘n Gro™ Concentrated Planting Mix?

Simply stated this concentrated planting mix is a combination of Coir and Miracle-Gro plant food. Coir is a lightweight, 100% natural material that comes from coconut husk. When compressed, coir can expand and retain moisture due to a distinctive cell structure.

What are the Benefits of using Expand ‘n Gro™?

Expand ‘n Gro™ retains more moisture than basic potting and garden soils. Water can then be used, as the plant needs it, preventing the common problem of over or under watering.

Helps loosen and aerate native soil, creating almost double the air space allowing moisture to easily reach the plant roots.

Different from traditional soil amendments, the coconut coir breaks down slowly in the soil, working for multiple years.

Not only does this Miracle-Gro potting soil and gardening mix expand up to 3 times the volume when water is added, it is said to produce up to three times the flowers and vegetables too!

My Potted Herb Garden

My intention was to plant spearmint, parsley, basil, and perhaps dill in late February or early March this year. Caring for my elderly father after a December fall has delayed my plans. Can you can imagine how excited I was to be offered this Miracle-Gro® Expand ‘n Gro™ Concentrated Planting Mix review?

Researching the Miracle-Gro® Expand ‘n Gro™ Concentrated Planting Mix, confirmed my initial thought, planting will be simpler and very doable even in with my current responsibilities. As soon as my sample arrives, those intended new herbs WILL be potted, yeah!!
