Avon Speak Out Against Domestic VoilenceDid you know one in three women in the U.S. will become a victim of abuse or partner violence in her life, and it is estimated some 15 million children witness violence in their families each year?

Familiar with the experience and emotion involved with domestic violence, I understand why oftentimes speaking out does not come about for many of the victims. Being outspoken comes natural, is an attributes and therefore expected of me. Anyone that knows me personally without doubt will confirm this fact. A former Avon sales representative, mother of two sons, and divorcee of an abuser is more than enough motivation for me to speak out and support the Avon Foundation for Women to end violence against women.

Ending Domestic Violence – Avon World Tour

Reese Witherspoon, an Avon Global Ambassador, joined Avon Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung to launch the company’s 125th Anniversary year on January 25. This celebration, held in Atlanta, GA kicked off the “Avon Believe World Tour”. This 16-city tour celebrates the company’s heritage and belief in its mission to empower women. Avon anticipates approximately 125,000 representatives will participate worldwide. The tour includes visits to Dallas, Los Angeles, London, Istanbul, New York, Chicago, Mexico City, Warsaw, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Manila, Shanghai, New Delhi, and Johannesburg.

While in Atlanta Witherspoon and Jung announced the creation of a new $1 million Avon Global Believe Fund that will launch a pioneering global effort to support women’s domestic violence shelters and agencies in each of the 16 cities on the tour. About the Avon Foundation for Women

“The Avon Foundation was founded in 1955 with the goal of improving women’s lives, and today we are proud to be the largest corporate philanthropy dedicated to women’s causes globally.

Our current dual mission supports breast cancer research and access to care, as well as addressing domestic and gender violence. Avon philanthropy has also responded in times of major global disasters, most recently to the earthquake in Haiti.

Through 2010, Avon global philanthropy has raised and donated more than $800 million worldwide, changing and saving lives across the country and around the world.”

Avon, know as the company for women, has a whole host of events and programs both ongoing and as part of their anniversary celebration, to empower women. The ongoing program, Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, funds breast cancer research and provides access to care for afflicted women. This project began in 1992 and I am proud to have participated.

The anniversay celebration includes Avon Voices, the first-ever online singing talent search for women and songwriting competition for women and men. This online program launched in December 2010 and invites people from 60 countries around the world to share their voices. The competition will be judged by a panel of famous judges from the  music industry around the world, including Fergie, Diane Warren, and Lea Salonga, to name a few.

In my opinion Avon truly is the company for women. Geez, my mother and aunts used Avon products.  In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, my favorite aunt sold Avon when I was in elementary school.

Can you think of another company that has supported women longer or with greater influence?
